<p>Liverpool have agreed to a major €140-million deal with Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) to sign Bradley Barcola, bringing an end to one of the summer’s longest-running transfer sagas.</p>



<p>Liverpool sporting director Richard Hughes and Fenway Sports Group president Mike Gordon headed the negotiations that produced a breakthrough overnight on Wednesday, 26 August, establishing an agreement for the 23-year-old winger. Barcola had made it clear he would not extend his contract with the European champions and was subsequently omitted from PSG’s Ligue 1 opener against Rennes last weekend.</p>



<p>The French international emerged as the Reds’ primary target following Mohamed Salah’s departure to the Turkish Super Lig. Capable of playing on either flank, Barcola recorded 13 goals and seven assists in 49 appearances for PSG last season, alongside a standout campaign with France at the 2026 FIFA World Cup.</p>



<p>With final details being ironed out, Barcola is set to travel to England to complete his medical and finalise terms. His arrival provides manager Andoni Iraola with a dynamic attacking threat, while potentially opening the door for Cody Gakpo’s exit amid interest from Tottenham Hotspur and Manchester City.</p>

<p>Atletico Madrid’s Julian Alvarez has reportedly rejected advances from Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta, reaffirming that Barcelona is his sole desired destination.</p>



<p>Despite Atletico’s firm stance that the Argentine FIFA World Cup winner is not for sale, transfer speculation continues to intensify as the window draws to a close.</p>



<p>Arteta personally phoned the 26-year-old striker to win him over to Arsenal’s long-term project and offer him a starring role at Emirates Stadium. However, reports indicate that Alvarez either ignored the call or explicitly reiterated his preference for the Catalan giants.</p>



<p>The pursuit represents a rare departure from Arteta’s established transfer policy, which prioritises players who demonstrate an immediate, unprompted desire to represent the Gunners. While Arsenal possess the financial resources to negotiate a deal with Atletico, Alvarez’s reluctance mirrors previous failed pursuits of targets like Dusan Vlahovic and Mykhailo Mudryk.</p>



<p>Barcelona remains hopeful that Atletico chief executive Miguel Angel Gil Marin will soften his stance before the deadline. Meanwhile, with Alvarez committed to securing a move to Camp Nou, Arsenal faces pressure to pivot towards alternative attacking targets to reinforce their frontline.</p>

Alvarez Snubs Arteta


<p>Manchester United have secured the signature of Carlos Baleba from Brighton in a deal rising to £70 million.</p>



<p>The 22-year-old Cameroon international signed a five-year contract, featuring an optional extra year, for a guaranteed £65 million fee plus £5 million in potential add-ons.</p>



<p>Baleba becomes United’s third midfield reinforcement of the summer alongside Andrey Santos and Youri Tielemans, completing a major engine-room rebuild under head coach Michael Carrick.</p>



<p>Despite a temporary setback with a pre-season ankle ligament injury that postpones his debut, his arrival brings vital physical presence, ground coverage, and ball-carrying dynamism.</p>



<p>The player expressed immense enthusiasm regarding his switch to Old Trafford, highlighting the manager&#8217;s influence on his decision. “I cannot wait to work with Michael Carrick. His experience and knowledge of the game make him the perfect coach to help me to reach the highest level,” Baleba stated.</p>



<p>Confirming the move, United’s director of football Jason Wilcox praised the acquisition, declaring: “Carlos’ determination to join Manchester United and his confidence that we will achieve our shared ambitions mean that he is the perfect signing as we continue to build a dynamic and entertaining team ready to compete across multiple competitions.”</p>

Carlos Baleba Completes £70m Transfer to Man United


<p>Nottingham Forest have negotiated a landmark £50-million transfer package – comprising £45m upfront and £5m in bonuses – to purchase forward Liam Delap from Chelsea.</p>



<p>This arrangement eclipses the £37.5 million expenditure spent on Omari Hutchinson a year prior, setting a new record for the City Ground outfit.</p>



<p>The 23-year-old front man endured an unproductive stint in West London following a £30 million relocation from Ipswich Town, finding the net just twice over 41 appearances across a campaign plagued by shoulder and hamstring issues. With Stamford Bridge manager Xabi Alonso prioritizing other attacking options, Chelsea stood to collect a £20 million profit.</p>



<p>Forest boss Oliver Glasner identified the target to bolster his frontline following Taiwo Awoniyi’s £9 million exit. Pundit Tim Sherwood endorsed the decision: “We know Liam&#8217;s got the ability; he&#8217;s shown that in the past. He needs to play on a regular basis now. He needs to stay fit.”</p>



<p>The player is scheduled to undergo a medical on today, Wednesday 26 August, ahead of signing a long-term contract.</p>

Forest Agree Club-Record £50m Liam Delap Deal

<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">Head coach Andoni Iraola says he is happy with Liverpool’s opening English Premier League (EPL) performance on Sunday, 23 August.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">The Reds took on Newcastle at St James’ Park in Newcastle upon Tyne, England, and were off to a slow start after the Magpies’ Anthony Elanga scored in the fifth minute. The visitors levelled the score after Cody Gakpo hit the back of the net in the 55th minute.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">Although the hosts quickly restored their advantage in the 57th minute, Liverpool snatched a 2-2 draw at the death, with Dominik Szoboszlai converting a penalty in stoppage time to salvage a point.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">Speaking at the post-match press conference, Iraola praised his men for giving the match their all until the final whistle.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">“Before the game, we wouldn’t have signed this result, probably,” the 44-year-old Spaniard said. “But it is true that I think it is a reward, because I think we’ve never given up; I think we’ve put a lot of pressure [on] Newcastle, and we had to wait until the end.”</span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">He added: “I think [in the] second half, we’ve been more decisive … we put a lot more pressure [on], we [created] more set plays, more crosses, more things inside the box … It’s not a lot, one point [from Szoboszlai], but at least it’s something that is deserved.”</span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">Both Liverpool and Newcastle are tied for ninth place – with one point apiece – in the EPL rankings.</span></p>
